Mary "Margaret" Daufenbach, 88, of Dugdale Drive, South Bend, died following an illness at 4:42 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Daufenbach was born Dec. 26, 1917, in Wilmette, Ill., to the late Anton and Mary (Weibler) Thalmann, and had lived in South Bend since 1948, coming from Chicago. On November 14, 1942, in New Orleans, La., as Margaret Thalmann, she married Lawrence J. Daufenbach, who died April 17, 1979.

She is survived by four daughters, Judith Ann (George) Yanda of San Jose, Calif., Mary R. Dudash of Tinley Park, Ill., Carol J. (Cary) Harwood of Union, Mich., and Joan M. (Thomas) Nowak of Granger, Ind.; a son, Thomas (Martha) Daufenbach, M.D., of Portage, Mich.; 17 grandchildren, Niki, Kim, Ann, Stacy, Kelly, Keith, Bob, Emilee, Andy, Mark, Matt, Janel, Larry, Meredith, John, Valerie and Sabrina; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Jake, Brenden, Bryce, Brayden, Brynn and Owen; a sister, Ann Young of Mooresville, Ind.; and by a brother, Tony (Gerry) Thalmann of Sun City, Ariz.

Mrs. Daufenbach was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church where she was a member and past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Circle of Mercy at St. Pat's and the Senior Circle. She was a very accomplished seamstress and made many outfits for herself and her family. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in St. Pius X Catholic Church, with Rev. William Schooler officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call in the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
