Leola Damp, 81, formerly of Brick
Road, Granger, Ind., died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005,
in Healthwin Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind.
She was born on October 17, 1923, in Mount Vernon, Ind. to
William and Versie (Willis) Weatherford.
On March 6, 1944, in Jacksonville, Florida,
she married Norman D. Damp Sr. He preceded her in death on
September 4, 1994. Leola was a very loving and caring person. Her
most prized possessions were her home and family. She loved
working in her gardens and tending to her gladioluses. Leola
looked forward to enjoying the company of her grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. Her home was open to all who came to visit.
Leola was a longtime member of Calvary Temple Church. She enjoyed
playing Euchre with the Granger Euchre Club. She will be greatly
missed by all her friends and family.
Leola is survived by her daughter, Francele,
E. (Mike) Megan of Port Charlotte, Florida; and two sons,
Norman D. Damp, Jr. of Mishawaka, Ind., and Dennis C. (Gloria)
Damp of South Bend, Ind. Leola is lovingly remembered by her four
grandchildren, Tracy (Sam) Elkins, Wendy (Ron) Coleman,
Kristi Damp and Shannon Damp; and five great-grandchildren,
Arielle Coleman, Desiree Coleman, Ronnie Coleman, Brandi Elkins
and Dalton Elkins. Also surviving are her sister, UnaJean
(Leonard) Kuhn of Mt. Vernon, Ind.; and two brothers,
Robert Weatherford of Mt. Vernon and Ralph Weatherford of
Vespers, Wis. Two sisters preceded her in death, Juanita Byrd
and Ellen Weatherford. Five brothers also preceded her in death,
Raymond, William, Phillip, John, and Donald Weatherford.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday,
October 11, 2005 at noon in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528
Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN, with Rev. Ed Erskin of Northway
Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph
Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends will be received in
the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon
on Tuesday. Contributions in memory of Leola may be made to the
charity of the donor's choice.
