SOUTH BEND - Coralie J. Dale, 84, a longtime South Bend
resident, died Thursday in the Buchanan Meadows Assisted Living
Facility in Buchanan, where she had lived the past three years.
Coralie was born on Dec. 2, 1923, in Denver, CO and raised in
Niles. Her father and mother, Wilber H. and Ruth McGinnis
Meldrim, preceded her in death, along with a brother, Wilber S.
(Bud) Meldrim; a half-brother, Willard Meldrim; and a
stepsister, Vera Deditch.
On April 5, 1943, Coralie married Marvin K.
Dale. He died on April 3, 2004. She is survived by two daughters
and sons-in-law, Pamela and Henry Mierlak, and Christine
and Gregory Benninghoff, all of Buchanan; six
grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. Coralie was a
longtime member of Northwest United Methodist Church, and had
been involved in many community activities and organizations in
German Township. She and her husband together built six homes,
the first on Darden Road, and two each on Lilac Road and North
Mayflower Road. Her eye for decorating complemented his
craftsmanship. Coralie also was an avid reader, and a talented
artist and cook. She loved flowers and singing. Her family will
especially miss her wit and her warmth.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday in
the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Funeral
services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Northwest United Methodist
Church, 21855 Brick Road. Interment will be at Riverview
Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or
Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
