Sigmund "Ziggy" Czerniak,
78, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 9:38
a.m. in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born on Feb.
5, 1924, in South Bend to Telsfor and Casimira Czerniak, who have
both preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his
first wife, Beatrice Wahl, three sisters, Helen Aichele,
Jane Badowski and Irene Przybylinski. On Dec. 16,
1997, in South Bend, Sigmund married Mary (Lovas) Adamski,
who survives. Sigmund is also survived by a son, Thomas (Kathryn)
Czerniak of Saginaw, Mich., two stepdaughters, Beverly (Kenneth) Cinal
of Fairfax, Va., Bonnie (Conrad) Dalkowski of
Beavercreek, Ohio; tree grandchildren, Jennifer and Lisa
Czerniak, both of Saginaw and Christopher Cinal of Fairfax; two
sisters, Martha Swigart of South Bend, Aurelia Kuc
of Gold Canyon, Ariz.; special friends, Denny and Julie DeBuysser
of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews. Sigmund served
with the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in
1945. After 24 years of service he retired as a firefighter with
the City of South Bend Fire Department.
Memorial services will be held at a later
date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to
the American Heart Association or the Muscular Dystrophy
Association. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, is
in charge of arrangements.
