SOUTH BEND - Charlotte Curran, 84, passed away Sunday, March 7,
2010, at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross with beloved friends, Betty
Vascil, Patty and Karen Koellner, and her longtime caregiver,
Sharon Thomas, at her side. Charlotte was born October 16, 1925,
in Mishawaka, Indiana, to Herman and Mayme Henry. She was a South
Bend/Mishawaka resident all of her life. She was preceded in
death by her parents. On Mary 4, 1946, Charlotte was united in
Holy Matrimony with Herbert Curran at Christ the King Catholic
Church. Bonded by a committed lifetime of friendship and devoted
love, Charlotte and Herb shared a passionate journey of
first-class pleasures from their active membership in Knights of
Columbus #553; as avid supporters of all Notre Dame sports and
longtime seasonal ticket holders of Notre Dame football who
relished tailgating with countless friends with an Irish salute
or two; were die-hard Chicago Cubs fans win or lose; and traveled
extensively with their close friends, Steve and Betty Lisek. Her
beloved husband, Herb, passed away on September 29, 1993.
Charlotte is survived by her brothers-in-law, Dick (Dorothy)
Curran of Kokomo, IN, and Robert (Barbara) Curran of South Bend,
IN; sister-in-law, Ginny Lockmondy of South Bend, IN; and cousin,
Denise (Ralph) Dabrowiak of South Bend, IN. Charlotte was a 1943
graduate of Riley High School where she played violin in band and
orchestra. She was a loyal "Wildcat" sports fan and a
regular monthly attendee of the "Riley Lunch Bunch."
Charlotte was a longtime insurance associate of the former
Taylor-Moyer Insurance Agency in South Bend. A devout Roman
Catholic member of Christ the King Catholic Church and in later
years St. Pius X Catholic Church, she was a member of the Christ
Child Society. An avid reader of books and newspapers, Charlotte
had a keen interest in civic and national politics, and enjoyed
debating political issues of the day. A weekly bridge/euchre card
player, she was fiercely competitive while enjoying a fine glass
of wine and being the consummate hostess. Fridays, until
recently, were reserved from mid-morning until well into the
evening with her lifelong friends, Doris Paturalski, Marlene
Kachur and Sharon Thomas for a day of culinary dining pleasures
and shopping to add to her exquisite home décor and personal
wardrobe par excellence. Charlotte took great pride in her home,
and with the immaculate attention to detail by her longtime
friend Connie Hess, an interior design/stylist, every holiday of
each season was a warm inspiration in her home. Our heartfelt
thanks go to all of the staff members of the Sanctuary at Holy
Cross for their devoted service and care, and to Dr. Robert King,
her trusted physician. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at
10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic
Church, 52553 Fir Road, South Bend. Burial will follow at
Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family
from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. today, March 9, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral
Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, and one
hour prior to Mass on Wednesday in church. In lieu of flowers,
expressions of sympathy on behalf of Charlotte may be made to the
American
Diabetes Association , 6910 North Main Street, Granger, IN
46530; or to Catholic Masses of the donor's choice. Online
condolences may be sent to the Curran family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
