SOUTH BEND - Edward J. Cukrowicz, 86, passed away on
Monday, December 3, 2007, at 10:25 p.m. in Holy Cross Care and
Rehabilitation. Edward was born on November 25, 1921, to the late
John and Mary (Szweda) F. Cukrowicz.
On February 5, 1947, he married Clara Berus
in South Bend, who preceded him in death on November 5, 2001. He
was also preceded in death by his sister, Irene Wozniak.
He is survived by his nephews, James Berus of Minneapolis, MN,
and Robert (Pam) Berus of Amherst, NY; and by his niece, Carolyn
(Al) Niemier of South Bend.
Ed graduated from Central High School in
1941. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He worked for the Studebaker Corporation for 22 years, and then
worked for A.M. General for 21 years, retiring from there as a
forklift driver. He was a member of St. Adalbert and St.
Stanislaus Catholic Church, American Legion 357, the Army-Navy
Union and St. Joseph's Men's Club. He was an avid fan of Notre
Dame football and of the University of Notre Dame. The family
would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Holy Cross
Care and Rehabilitation for all their excellent care. Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research
Hospital, Memphis, TN 38018.
Visitation will be today, Dec. 6, from 10:00
a.m. to 11 a.m. in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, where a
Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. ST. JOSEPH
FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, is assisting the
family with the arrangements. Entombment will be at St. Joseph
Cemetery.
