MISHAWAKA - Maurice R. Crum, 66, died Wednesday, March
12th, in Mishawaka. He was born June 26, 1941, in Mishawaka, to
Chester C. and Metta A. (Clinehens) Crum, who was preceded
in death by his father, Chester C., and a brother, Warren E. He
graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1959, Bethel College in
1963 with a BA in English, a master's degree in education from
Michigan State University in 1966, and was a school teacher for
19 years at Brandywine Public School in Niles, MI. He was also
self-employed, doing a variety of jobs, was known as "Lonely
Crowbar," and had done a lot of construction site cleanups.
He enjoyed his grandchildren, was known for his sense of humor,
and was a talented writer.
On July 24, 1965, in Elkhart, he married
Connie J. Burgess, who survives along with two daughters,
Anita (Mark) Fry of Elkhart and Angela (Dan) Ayers
of Valparaiso; six grandchildren, Brandon, Alyssa and Brooke Fry,
Jessalyn, Kathelyn and Adam Ayers; his mother, Metta of
Mishawaka; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (James) Lehman of
Conway, SC, and Margi (Dean) Bontrager of Kokomo, IN; and
a brother-in-law, Cliff (Elaine) Burgess of Port Huron,
MI.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Monday in Zion Missionary Church, 1135 E. Hively Ave., Elkhart,
IN 46517, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, with
Dr. John Moran and Rev. David Ashley officiating. Burial will be
at Prairie Street Cemetery.
