E. Crowel

MISHAWAKA - Walter Ernest Crowel, 84, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed
away peacefully at Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborn on April 15,
2010. "Walt" was born August 26, 1925, in Mishawaka,
IN, the son of Walter and Mabel (Beebe) Crowel. After graduating
from South Bend Riley High School, he served in the Army Air
Corps, then returned home to work with his father and brothers in
the family dairy business. Hillview Dairy was a successful
processor and retailer of dairy and bakery products throughout
the 1950s and 60s, with 17 retail locations throughout northern
Indiana. When the family business was sold in 1970, Walter moved
his family to Arizona and was self-employed in the automotive
parts distribution industry until his retirement in 1996. As a
member of the Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, Walter
served as an usher for many years. During his life, he was also a
member of the Sports Car Club of America and the Benevolent
Protective Order of the Elks. Survivors include his wife of more
than 60 years, Phyllis; daughter, Barbara (Edward) Gruner; son,
Gary (Sue) Crowel; granddaughters, Katie Pray, Hailey Crowel and
Kelly Hendrickson; and brother, Carl Crowel, who resides in
Mishawaka. A service in celebration of life will be held at
Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, 4455 E. Lincoln Drive,
Paradise Valley, AZ, on April 30th at 11:00 am. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to
the American
Heart Association .
