SOUTH BEND - Sister Helen Crowell, CSC, 82, of Saint Mary's Convent, died at 10:03 a.m. Tuesday in her residence. Sister Crowell was born Oct. 11, 1913, in Jamaica Plain, Mass., as Helen Catherine Crowell.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Jan. 29, 1929, was received as a novice Aug. 15, 1929, and professed her vows Aug. 15, 1931. She was assigned to elementary and secondary education and taught at schools in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Va., Norfolk, Va., New York City, Batavia, N.Y., Lancaster, Pa., and Kensington, Md. She is survived by a sister, Mary Crowell of Westwood, Mass.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today in the convent, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Bertrand Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
