Jack O. Crowel, 69, of Hanover Court,
South Bend, Ind., died after a long battle with Alzheimer's on
Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation
Center. Mr. Crowel was born on Dec. 21, 1929, in Mishawaka, Ind.,
to Walter and Mabel Crowel. Along with his parents and brothers,
Mr. Crowel was a partner in the Hillview Dairy and Bakery for
many years. Mr. Crowel was co-owner of Asphalt Engineers, Inc.
Mr. Crowel was actively involved with Elks Lodge #235 for many
years and was a past exalted ruler. On Feb. 19, 1950, he married
the former Ora Lee Benko. He is survived by his wife of
nearly 50 years, Ora Lee Crowel; a son, Kurtis (Denise) Crowel of
South Bend; two daughters, Kay Jo Crowel of Atlanta, Ga., and
Karen Lee (Mark) Keesey of Sylvania, Ohio; two brothers,
Carl Crowel of Mishawaka and Walter Crowel of Scottsdale, Ariz.;
and by four grandchildren, Kirsten Carelli, Colin Crowel,
Rachel Keesey and Alison Keesey.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, with burial following in Southlawn Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Jack Crowel to the Alzheimer's Association or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
