MISHAWAKA - Grayson Michael
"Bud" Crotty, 83, formerly of South Bend and
Plymouth, died at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Memorial
Hospital, South Bend, following a brief illness. Mr. Crotty was
born May 24, 1923, in Monnesson, PA, to the late Joseph M. and
Gertrude A. (Merritt) Crotty, and had lived in the
northern Indiana area since 1949, coming from Butler, PA.
On June 14, 1946, in Butler, he married Alice E.
"Betsy" Schneider, who survives. Also surviving
are four daughters, Jo Moore (Tim Flores) of Blanco, TX,
Teri Crotty (Jann Gormley) of Woodbury, Minn., Connie Dahlem
(Richard) of Northport, NY, and Bonnie Head (James) of
Fishers, IN; three grandchildren, Grayson Moore, Elizabeth Dahlem
and Max Dahlem; and two great-grandchildren, Grayson Moore Jr.
and Taylor Moore. He was preceded in death by two sisters,
Josephine Crotty and Cora Jane Presco; and a brother, John
Crotty.
Bud retired from the Bendix Corporation in 1985 as a production
engineer in the aerospace division after 35 years of service. He
proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army
Air Corps. He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting with his
buddies, Corky and John. He spent many hours training his beloved
Labrador retrievers. Bud was dedicated to making his health
possible through exercise and positive attitude. His commitment
to high standards and values, along with his sense of humor
sustained his 60-year marriage.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, Feb. 2, in the
Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
Cremation will follow, with burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at
a later date. Friends may call today from 2 p.m. until the time
of services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be
made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society, 2506 Grape Road,
