Frank E. Crosiar

Frank E. Crosiar, 82, of 2532 Ash Lane, South Bend, died in his residence at 12:10 a.m. Tuesday. He had been ill since last August. Frank was born on April 16, 1915, in Utica, Ill., coming to South Bend in 1934 to attend the University of Notre Dame. He was a member of the class of 1938.

 

He married Betty A. Keene on March 22, 1946, in South Bend. She survives along with two daughters, Kathleen (Wayne) Pulliam, Marcia L. Crosiar, a son, Christopher J. Crosiar, all of South Bend. He is also survived by a son, James of Springfield, Ohio. Two granddaughters, Lisa A. (Jeff) Overmeyer of South Bend and Tiffany Broadway of Northridge, Calif. Three great-grandchildren, Heather Overmeyer, Jeffrey D. Overmeyer and Bailey Overmeyer, all of South Bend.

 

Mr. Crosiar was a sportscaster in the Michiana area for many years, having broadcast high school and Notre Dame games from the 40s through the mid-70s. For 34 years (1948-1982), he was the ''Voice of the Irish,'' serving as Public Address Announcer at Notre Dame Football games. His radio career began as a student at Notre Dame. In 1944, he signed WHOT on the air, which later became WNDU. He served there until 1957, then later became Manager of WJVA until 1974. Frank retired in 1982.

 

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main St., Mishawaka, where friends may call two hours prior to services. Following cremation, entombment will be at Highland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County
