Russell W. Coyle, 80, of West Ireland
Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at
3:45 a.m. on Friday, March 3, in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Coyle was
born on Feb. 10, 1920, in Franklin, Ohio, and resided in the
South Bend area for a short time, coming from Tennessee.
On Feb. 7, 1948, in Canton, Ohio, he married
the former Ruth Schrade, who survives. He is also survived by
three sons, David (Joanne) Coyle of Granger, Ind., Steve
(Barbara) Coyle and Jim Coyle, both of South Bend; five
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who he loved an
cherished; two sisters, Ruth Tomasin of Amarillo, Texas, and
Alice Worrell of Springboro, Ohio.
Mr. Coyle retired from National Cash
Register (NCR) in 1983 after 38 years of service. He was an U.S.
Army veteran of World War II serving in the 82nd Air Borne
Division. He received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star and a
Silver Star. He was wounded during the war and was on disability
pension. Mr. Coyle was extremely proud of his military service
and served his country with honor and pride.
Visitation hours will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on
Sunday, March 5, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest
Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Ind. 23,
South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Monday, March 6, in the Christian Center, 530 East Ireland Road,
South Bend. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior
to the service time on Monday. Burial will follow at Southlawn
Cemetery. The family request that all memorial contributions be
made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the "Feed the
Hungry," Christian Center, 530 E. Ireland Road, South Bend.
The Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home
handled arrangements and services and extend heartfelt sympathy
and prayers to the Coyle Family.
