Nancy J. Cox, 51, of South Bend, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2006, at 7:15 a.m. in her residence. Nancy was born on September 7, 1954, in South Bend, to Chet and Rita (Wroblewski) Mielcarek.
On November 19, 2005, she married Phillip Cox in South Bend. She was a registered nurse in the allergy department for Dr. Harris and Dr. Clausen at the South Bend Clinic. Nancy is survived by her husband, Phillip Cox of South Bend; a son, Matthew Kalka of South Bend; two stepchildren, Rachael Leinbach of Paris Island, S.C., and Phillip Cox Jr. of South Whitley, Ind.; five step-grandchildren; her father, Chet Mielcarek of South Bend; a brother, Tim Mielcarek of South Bend; and her ex-husband, Michael Kalka of South Bend. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rita Mielcarek.
She graduated from Riley High School in 1972 and Memorial School of Nursing in 1976. She attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church. Nancy loved her pets, enjoyed NASCAR, and was a wonderful gardener and cook.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 11, 2006, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at 10:00 a.m., with a one hour calling before the service in Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend, Ind., where Rev. Craig Clapper will be presiding. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th St., Mishawaka, IN 46544.
