Hildegarde R. Cox (Sept. 14, 1915 - May 31, 2012).
MISHAWAKA - Hildegarde R. Cox, 96, of Mishawaka, passed
away at 1:35 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012, in Michiana Health and
Rehab Center. She was the third of four children born to Michael
and Mary Wallisch, born on September 14, 1915, in South Bend. On
February 14, 1942, Hildegarde married Fred L. Cox, who passed
away in 1994 shortly after their 52nd wedding anniversary.
Hildegarde graduated from St. Mary's Parochial School and from
there went on to business school. She worked as a secretary at
the Studebaker Corp. for ten years. Hildegarde was a stay-at-home
mother and worked from home typing dissertations for Notre Dame
students while raising her daughters. She continued working in
her home typing business until she retired in 1981. Hildegarde
was an avid reader, enjoyed bingo, working crossword puzzles and
playing cards, particularly pinochle and euchre. She was also a
volunteer at the Budget Corner. Survivors include two daughters,
Nancy L. Hammock (Don) of Granger and Kathy S. Lyons of
Indianapolis; three granddaughters, Michelle Kowal (Robert) of
Indianapolis, Heather Blank (Matthew) of Granger and Rachel Van
Vynckt of Mishawaka; three great-grandchildren; eight
stepgrandchildren and one great-grandchild; and nephews, Tom
Wartha of Vienna, VA, David Wallisch of Mishawaka, Charlene
Larrison of South Bend, Roger Cox of Granger and Don Wallisch of
Milwaukee. Hildegarde was also preceded in death by one sister,
Marie Wartha in 1999; two brothers, George Wallisch in 1978 and
Albert Wallisch in 2007; a grandson, Todd Michael Hammock in
1977; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Wallisch in 2001. Family and
friends may call today, June 3rd, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Bubb
Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where there will
be a wake service at 4:00 p.m., also today. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 4th, at St. Pius X
Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, where there will be one
hour of visitation before the services. Msgr. William C. Schooler
will officiate the services, with entombment to follow at
Highland Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be
