Charles W. Cox, 72, of South Bend, passed away on Monday, Dec. 30, at Memorial Hospital. He was born on Jan. 20, 1930, in Stuttgart, Ark., to Charles Edward and Ida Mae Cox. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Cox in 1963 and by his sister, Rena Melkovitz in 2000.

Survivors include his son, Charles W. Cox Jr. of South Bend; his sister, Beatrice (Rev. Gene) Ratekin of Arkansas; two brothers, Edward (Mary) Cox of Florida and Robert (Sharon) Cox of Arkansas; two stepsisters, Julia (Joe) Ciszczon of Mishawaka and Leona (Richard) Syre of Pennsylvania; his companion of 28 years, Doris Mickels of Mishawaka and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Cox was the former Vice-president of Gilbert's Men's Clothing Store. He had also been a member of the M.I.P.O.A.

Funeral services for Charles W. Cox will beheld on Friday, Jan. 3, 2002, at 9 a.m. in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Family and friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
