Lois Mae (Dalton) Cowen
SOUTH BEND - Lois Mae (Dalton) Cowen, 97, of South Bend, IN, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, in her home. She retired in 1974 from J.C. Penney as a seamstress. Mrs. Cowen was born on July 8, 1909, in Minneapolis, MN to Charles and Ethel (Quick) Yeider.
On June 3, 1928, in South Bend, IN, she
married Ira Anthony William Cowen, who preceded her in death on
February 17, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her
daughter, Betty M. Paluzzi on August 17, 2003. Mrs. Cowen
is survived by three daughters, Judy (Gordon) Eddy of
South Bend, Lila (James Sr.) Trump of Port St. Lucie, FL,
and Suzy (Jack) Mechling of Cleveland, OH; one son, Doug
(Jan) Cowen of South Bend; 16 grandchildren, 29
great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren; and one
sister, Viola (Jack) Hess of Long Beach, CA. She was preceded in
death by one sister, Sabina Erickson; and three brothers,
Roy, Don and Kenneth Yeider.
Mrs. Cowen was a member of River Park United
Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women's Group. She
was a former Campfire Leader and Blue Birds Indian Guide. She
greatly enjoyed her time at the cottage on Donnell Lake and loved
to fish. Her hobbies included crafting, sewing, mushroom hunting
and cooking. She especially enjoyed baking apple pies and
homemade ice cream. Beef and noodles was her specialty.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 18th, in River Park United Methodist Church, 920 S.
23rd Street, South Bend. Rev. Darci Sieracki and Rev. Dennis
Sieracki will officiate. The family will receive friends from
2:00 to 6:00 p.m. today in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528
Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and in church on Monday one hour
prior to services. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Lois Cowen may
be made to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the Children's
Department at River Park United Methodist Church.
