Mae Florence Cowan

Mrs. Mae Florence Cowan, 70, of 56150 Butternut Road, expired in her home at 1 a.m., Dec. 2. She was born to the late Willie and Lendie Reed May 16, 1926, in Jack-son, Tenn. She moved to South Bend in 1948, coming from Jackson, and for many years was employed as a nurses' aide at the former Carlisle Nursing Home, and at the Cardinal Nursing Home. Upon reaching retirement age, she retired from that service.

Mrs. Cowan was a former member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Willie V. Williams. She is survived by a loving husband, William Cowan; two sons, Robert Lacy (Mary Lacy) of South Bend and Robert Cowan (Barbara Cowan) of Bellewood, Ill.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Severa Womack of California and Mary Lee of South Bend; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 1 until 3 p.m. in Clark Funeral Chapel.
