SOUTH BEND - Alonzo Covington, 92, passed away on Friday
Oct. 31. He was born to the late Prince and Ellen Covington on
August 16, 1915, in Pine Bluff, AR. He was preceded in death by
four other siblings, Theodore Covington, Myrtle Covington, Iszola
Powell and Vannie Wilson. Alonzo Covington served
his county honorably during World War II in the United States
Army. After being discharged he sought employment and worked at
the Reynolds Metal Company for 25 years and later worked and
retired at Mount Sinai Hospital. He served as a union
representative for both companies. He led a simple life, actively
serving in the community always willing to help those in need.
Alonzo is survived by one child, Prince A. Covington Sr.;
daughter-in-law, Leta Covington of South Bend; a grandson, Prince
A. Covington Jr. (USMC) and four great-grandchildren. Other
significant family includes Prince A. Covington Sr.; mother,
Katherine DePratto and her children, Harry Jr. Arthur,
Carolyn, Marilyn and Kathryn and a host of other family and
friends. Two other DePratto siblings, Richard and Carolyn
preceded him in death.
A dual memorial service and burial will be held at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 5 at the Evergreen Cemetery, Chicago, IL. Arrangements have been entrusted with Alford's Mortuary.
