Dewey Covell
Nov. 2, 1920 - March 1, 2001
Dewey Covell, 80, of Clover Street, South Bend, formerly of 1929 Randolph Street, South Bend, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2001, after a short illness. Better known as "Uncle Dewey", he left behind a best friend and niece, Lynn Hailey, also of Clover Street. His loving buddies include, Gary Hailey, Justin Fernbaugh, Shawn, Amy and Taylor Steigmeyer, Brian and Ty Steigmeyer, former sister-in-law, Gloria Davis and many good friends.
He was the proud proprietor of "Dewey's Fireworks" for 25 years. He was an active member of the Marine Corp League since 1948. Serving in the United States Marine Corp earned him the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in Iwo Jima on March 2, 1945.
Preceding him in death was his life long companion, Beverly Steigmeyer/Covell. He will be deeply missed and always in our hearts.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, where friends will be received two hours prior to services. Rev. Larry Baker will officiate the funeral services. The V.F.W. Post #1167 will be conducting military rites at the funeral chapel. Dewey's final resting place will be the Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, Ind.
