SOUTH BEND - Victor J. Couch, 93, of South Bend, IN,
passed away early Saturday morning, December 22, 2007, in the
home of his daughter Mary Ann Bruno in Lakewood, CO. A
lifelong resident, Victor was born on March 13, 1914, in South
Bend, to the late Fredrick J. and Cecilia (Gooley) Couch.
On April 20, 1940, in South Bend, he married
the former Margaret Mary Berndt. She died on May 10, 2000,
in South Bend. Mr. Couch is survived by his five sons, William G.
(Chris) Couch of Watertown, WI, Robert F. (Patti) Couch of South
Bend, Michael A. Couch of South Bend, John F. Couch of Denver,
CO, and Victor J. (Debi) Couch II of Palm Bay, FL; five
daughters, Mary Ann Bruno of Lakewood, CO, Betty J. Couch of
South Bend, Rita (Bob) Wolf of Stuart, FL, Rosemarie
(Dale) Hollopeter of Castle Rock, CO, and Margaret V.
(Roger) Schmeltz of South Bend; twenty-five grandchildren;
two step-grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and two
step-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Margarita Humphrey
of South Bend and Cecilia (Joseph) Bauters of South Bend
survive as well. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Couch,
his daughter, Jane F. Couch, and five brothers, Joseph, Fredrick,
Howard, James C. and Leo Couch.
Mr. Couch retired from South Bend Lathe
after 44 years of service, where he worked in the shipping Dept.
and drove a truck. He was a lifelong farmer and a charter member
of Christ the King Catholic Church, where he was a member of
Harvest House. He served as the financial secretary for the
Steelworkers Union Local #1722, and also was Financial Secretary
of St. Joseph Council AFL-CIO for 8 years. Victor was an usher at
Notre Dame Football and Baseball games for over 74 years.

celebrate his life on Thursday, December 27, 2007, from 5 to 8
p.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 IN State Road 933,
South Bend, IN 46637, where a parish rosary will be held at 7:30
p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Friday, December 28, 2007, in Christ the King Catholic Church,
with Reverend Neil Wack officiating. Burial and graveside
services will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in
Granger. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to Blue
Cloud Abbey P.O. Box 98 Marvin, SD 57251 or Christ the King
Catholic Church. Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart is in charge of
arrangements.
