Isabel K. Cortier, 84, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2002. Mrs. Cortier was born on January 1, 1918, in Naperville, IL, to John and Kate (Frisch) Lies, who both preceded her in death. She had lived locally for 68 years, coming from Naperville, IL. Mrs. Cortier and her husband, George, had co-owned several businesses over the years.
On January 31, 1942, in the former Sacred Heart Church on Thomas Street in South Bend, as Isabel K. Lies, she married George A. Cortier, who survives. Also surviving are her children, Georgene (Leroy) Wisler of Wakarusa, IN, James (Jo) Cortier of New Carlisle, IN, Beverly Cortier (Bruce McMillen) of South Bend, IN, Janice (David) Akin of South Bend, IN; 26 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include her sister, Marilyn (Albert) Gostola of South Bend, IN; her brothers, Paul (Esta Mae) Lies of South Bend, IN, Francis (Fay) Lies of South Bend, Ralph (Marge) Lies of Michigan City, IN, Charles (Char) Lies, of South Bend, IN; and her sister-inlaw, Phyllis Kinzie of Haines City, Fla. She was preceded in death by her brother, Anthony Lies.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2002 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, New Carlisle, IN. Burial will follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Mrs. Cortier was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish and the St. Stanislaus Kostka Altar Rosary Sodality. She was also a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Mary Ann Sorority of Studebaker. She enjoyed crafts, needlework, and playing the organ. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Stanislaus Kostka memorial Fund.
