Elsie F. Corl, 82, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 3:25 p.m. on Monday afternoon, March 6, in Saint Joseph's Regional Me-dical Center, South Bend. She was born on Aug. 24, 1917, in South Bend, to John I. and Ina O. (Bickel) Bowers.
On June 27, 1943, in Wakarusa, Ind., she married Williard F. Corl, who died on July 15, 1966. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Verna "Lucille" Six; and by a brother, Robert Eugene Bowers. She is survived by her son, Samuel W. Corl of South Bend; and a brother, John S. (Peggy) Bowers of Wakarusa, Ind. She also has two nieces and two nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Corl worked for many years for the Nu-Way Grocery Store and was also a custom seamstress. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, and was an active parish worker and director of Christian education at the church. She was treasurer for the Walbash Valley Women Presbytery and did extensive work with the youth of the church.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 10, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501 W. Cleveland Road, with Reverends Daniel Clark, pastor, and Rev. Harry D. Collier, pastor emeritus, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elsie F. Corl Youth Camp and Conference Fund, c/o the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
