Alice Cook
Nov. 1, 1922 - March 20, 2003
Alice Derda Cook, 80, died on
Thursday, March 20, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. She
was born in South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 1, 1922, to Mary A. (Kromkowski)
and Adam Derda.
On May 9, 1942, she married Floyd L. Cook
Jr., who died on May 24, 1960. On Dec. 6, 1969, she married
Alexander Homeleski, who died on April 19, 1978. She was
also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard;
sister, Virginia Orisich; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Derda
and Irene Derda; and by a great-grandchild, Lydia Serenity Bradley.
Alice is survived by four children, James (Sheila) Cook of
Steamboat Springs, Colo., Timothy (Joan) Cook of Fort Collins,
Colo., Linda (Jack) Pelaccio of New York, N.Y., and Mari
(John) Vogel of Lakeville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, Keri
(Doug) Falls of Lake Forest, Ill., Danielle Cook of
Alexandra, Va., Coleman Cook of Steamboat Springs, Zakary (Ana) Pelacci
of Brooklyn, N.Y., Spencer Cook of Fort Collins, Colo., Ryan
(Rachel) Bradley of South Bend, Lindsay Bradley of South Bend,
Olivia Bradley of South Bend, Greta Bradley of South Bend and Eva
Pelaccio of New York; three great-grandchildren, Madeline Micinski,
Kira Bradley and Benjamin Bradley, all of South Bend; two
brothers, Ervin Derda of South Bend and Arthur (Jeanne) Derda of
Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and by a brother-in-law, Rudy Orisich of
Three Rivers, Mich. Additional survivors include a stepson,
Michael (Marcy) Homeleski of Fishers, Ind.; step-grandchildren,
Blayne and Tyler Homeleski of Fishers, John (Wendy) Vogel of Cape
Coral, Fla., Joe (Val) Vogel and Sara Vogel of Mishawaka; and
step-great-grandchildren, Amanda, Hannah and Athena Vogel. Alice
is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Alice retired
as a employee of the medical practice of Dr. B.J. Kim, and went
on to a career in retail sales at Marshall Fields, working up
until 2000.
Cremation has taken place. Friends and
family may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday in the Kaniewski
Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. There will be no funeral
service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St.
Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
