Sister M. Loretto Conway CSC

Sister M. Loretto (Mary Margaret Conway), CSC, 102, was born in St. Joseph, Mo., to the late Maurice J. Conway and Mary Elizabeth Tracey Conway. Sister was preceded in death by her sister, Sister Mauricita (Catherine Conway). She is survived by her cousin, Sister Mary Ellen McGlynn, CSC; nieces, Mary Catherine (Robert) Lysaght of South Whitley, Ind., Katherine K. Lysaght of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Richard Lysaght of Hicksville, Ohio, Joella Martinez of Atchison, Kan.; A nephew, S. Raymund Judd of Troy, Kan.; and many friends.

 

Sister Loretto received her early education at schools in St. Joseph, Platt Commercial College, Saint Mary's College and Dunbarton College, Washington, D.C. She was an executive secretary for the Chamber of Commerce, St. Joseph, before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1936. Sister made her first profession in 1928 and final profession in 1931.

She taught in Assumption School, South Bend, Ind., and St. Mary's School, Woodstock, Ill., where she also taught commercial classes in the high school. In 1932 Sister was named secretary at Dunbarton College, Washington, D.C., and was also an accountant/secretary for the Eastern Province until 1945 when she was named religious superior for Dunbarton. After her term of office, she remained as accountant at Dunbarton College. In 1957, Sister was named religious superior at Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, and in 1962 elected provincial superior for the Eastern Province. Sister Loretto was involved with the building/expansion project at Saint Angela Hall, Garrett Park, Md., and in 1972 became a graduate student at Dunbarton College. She was named religious superior and accountant at Cardinal Cushing College, Brookline, Mass., until she retired to Saint Angela Hall, Kensington, Md., in 1979. Sister came to Saint Mary's Convent in 1999. She was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Wake services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
