Rev. Clyde P. Conley, 73, of Alex
Way, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away peacefully on Saturday, April
6, in Saint Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka. He was born on Nov. 29,
1928, in Leighton, Ala. He was the son of Houston and Elizabeth
Conley. Rev. Conley was a veteran of the Korean War and was
honorably discharged on July 5, 1950.
He married Verna Dean Conley from
Cloverdale, Ala., on July 18, 1950. They were married in Iuka,
Miss., and then relocated to Mishawaka in October 1950. Rev.
Conley retired from Dodge Manufacturing in December 1983 after 28
years of service. In addition to his employment at Dodge
Manufacturing, he pastored Buchanan General Baptist Church in
Buchanan, Mich., for 25 years. He then pastored Riverview General
Baptist Church in Elkhart, Ind., for six years and in 1992
assisted with the founding of Elkhart County Community Baptist
Church in Elkhart, and was a member there at the time of his
death. He is survived by his loving wife, Verna Dean Conley;
their three children, Kay Hambrick of Osceola, Ind., Bruce
Conley of Bartlett, Tenn., and David Conley of Memphis, Tenn. He
is also survived by four grandchildren, and by a brother, Joe
Conley of Sulphur Springs, Texas. He also left a host of family
and friends too numerous to mention.
Funeral services for Rev. Conley will be
held at 2 p.m. today, April 9th, in Southside General Baptist
Church on Spring Street in Mishawaka.
