SOUTH BEND - On Sunday, February 28, 2010, at 5:30 a.m. Jonas
David (J.D.) Collins was called into eternal rest at the Valley
View Health Center. Jonas was born November 1, 1946, in
Woodville, Mississippi, to Mr. and Mrs. Claiborn (Lerlean)
Collins. He was the fourth of nine children. He attended
Wilkerson County Training School where he graduated and joined
the Untied States Armed Forces where he served faithfully until
his discharge. He was stationed in Vietnam. Jonas was known as a
"Jack of all Trades" he could fix anything that was
broken! Jonas is survived by his daughter, Joan D. Collins and
his son, Claiborn Collins, both of Chicago, IL, and two
grandchildren along with his siblings, three brothers, Jimmy R.
(Carolyn) Wells of Baker, LA, Arthur L. (Shirley) Collins, and
Alvin L. Collins, both of Elkhart, Indiana, also five sisters,
Mildred A. Lovely and Marilyn C. Collins, both of Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, Pinkie M. Young of Inglewood, California, Deborah A.
Collins of Las Angels, California and Joyce M. Jones of Elkhart,
Indiana. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents,
Mr. And Mrs. Claiborn (Lerlean) Collins. Funeral services for Mr.
Jonas Collins will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010
at Unique Ministries, Elkhart, Indiana, with burial following at
Prairie Street Cemetery., Viewing will be held at the church on
Saturday form 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted
