Jean Evelyn Collins, 69, of Balston
Circle, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Brick Road, South Bend,
died at 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, in Memorial Hospital,
South Bend. She was born on Dec. 27, 1928, in South Bend, to
Ethel (Bestle) and Clarence Ashley, who both
preceded her in death. On Sept. 24, 1947, in South Bend, as Jean
E. Ashley, she married Lee Collins, who survives. She is also
survived by her daughters, Linda (Victor) Steinhoffer,
Judy (John) Paczesny, Patty (Tom) Triplet, all of
South Bend, Joyce (Larry) Gussman of Rolling Prairie,
Ind.; her son, James L. (Kay) Collins of South Bend; her
grandchildren, Kris (Jeff) Beatty of Indianapolis, Ind.,
Gary and Kevin Paczesny of South Bend, Dale Mathews in the
U.S. Air Force, Kim, Lorrie and Holly Triplet, all of South Bend,
Shelly (Tim) Ebersol of South Bend, Scott and Sarah
Collins of South Bend; her great-grandchildren, Jordan Beatty of
Indianapolis, Victoria and Bradley Ebersol of South Bend; two
sisters, Ruth (George) Palm of LaPorte, Ind., and Betty
(Roger) Slater of Yorba Linda, Calif.; and by a brother,
Warren (Aletha) Ashley of South Bend. Mrs. Collins retired in
1996 from Sears, Roebuck & Company after 38 years of
employment, where she had been employed as an accounting clerk.
She was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church, South
Bend.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in the
Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
Rev. Ronald Dixon of Northwest United Methodist Church will
conduct services. Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in
the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, South
Bend. The family has requested that memorial contributions be
made to Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road,
South Bend, IN 46628; or to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
