SOUTH BEND - Helen Josephine Colglazier, 92, of South
Bend, passed away at 10:58 AM Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, in Memorial
Hospital, South Bend. She was born on Jan. 22, 1915, to the late
Edward and Mary (Packard) Nice in Livonia, IN, and
had lived in South Bend for 46 years, coming from Salem, IN.
Along with her parents, two sisters, Mabel Nice and Margaret Bostic,
and two brothers, Lewis "Luke" Nice and William O.
"Bill" Nice, also preceded her in death. Mrs.
Colglazier was the co-owner, along with her husband Russell, of
Colglazier Concessions for 21 years. She had also worked as a
seamstress for the C.E. Lee Company and then for Uniroyal.
On June 14, 1936, as Helen Josephine Nice,
she married Russell K. Colglazier in Salem, IN. He died on
January 31, 1981. She is survived by one daughter, Jane A. Carlton,
and her husband, Harry of South Bend, IN; two sons, Earl
Colglazier and his wife, Nancy of South Bend, IN, Paul Ray
Colglazier and his wife, Betty of Daytona Beach, FL; nine
grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Fran
Richards of Simi Valley, CA; and eight nieces and nephews. Mrs.
Colglazier was a member of Livonia Baptist Church. Helen
instilled a love of God in her children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She had the gifts of story telling,
hospitality, and a love of music. Helen was known as "Granny"
to many people. She enjoyed gardening and was a master quilter.
She had exhibited her quilts at state and national levels where
she had won several awards. Helen had also designed and sewn nine
wedding dresses for her family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Thursday,
Dec. 6, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive,
South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec.
8, in Livonia Baptist Church, Livonia, IN. Burial will follow at
Livonia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Livonia Baptist Church, 197 E. Main St., Campbellsburg, IN 47107.
Weathers Funeral Home in Salem, IN, is handling funeral
arrangements in Livonia.
