GRANGER - Hershel D. Coleman, 87, died at 7:10 p.m.
Sunday, April 29, 2007, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center,
Mishawaka, with his loving family at his side. He was born in
Mishawaka on May 13, 1919, to Percy and Ida (Galbreath)
Coleman, who preceded him in death.
Hershel married the former Joan Campbell
in Mishawaka on August 1, 1959, and she preceded him on January
27, 1995. Mr. Coleman is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Matthys
of South Bend; three sons, Thomas D. Coleman of South Bend, James
R. Coleman of South Bend and Donald R. Coleman of Lakeville,
seven grandchildren, Caren (Toby) Dove, Kevin (Stephanie)
Coleman, Ron (Kirsten) Coleman, Todd (Mary) Matthys, Terry
(Tracy) Coleman, Ryan (Jessica) Matthys and Angie Matthys; and 10
great- grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Ray
Coleman of Seattle, Washington. Preceding him in death were three
sisters, Edna Shoemaker, Bernice Raab and Oleita Heflick;
and five brothers, Albert, Reevie, Vern, Hal and Cecil Coleman.
Hershel retired from Tyler Refrigeration in
1982 after 27 years and had formerly worked at Studebaker for 12
years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of
American Legion Post #161.
Friends may visit with the family from 4 to
8 p.m. today, May 1st, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main
St., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday which will be
held at 10 a.m., with Rev. Ervin Mize officiating. Burial will
follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made
to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South
Bend, IN 46637.
