SOUTH BEND - At approximately 12:10 p.m. on April 25, 2010,
following a long and miserable illness, the 82-year-old earthly
spirit that was Bernadine Clara Coleman flew into eternity to
find peace with her heavenly father at the Sanctuary of St.
Joseph Nursing Care Facility on West Washington Street.
"Bonnie" or "Boss" (as she came to be called
later) was born on July 26th, 1927, to Wil and Essie Tarver in
Charleston, Missouri, the ninth child of 11 children. Bonnie was
married to Perry Ellis Coleman upon his completion of service in
the South Pacific during World War II. Pre-deceased by her
husband and eight siblings, she leaves to cherish her memory a
brother, Leander Tarver (Virginia) of Fort Wayne, IN; and a
sister, Geneva Clay of South Bend, Indiana, and one niece who
grew up as one of the siblings, Ann Laura Campbell (Andrew) of
Palatine, Illinois. Bonnie gave birth to two children, Ronnie
Ellis Coleman (Annie Ree) and Jo Ann Coleman-Harris (Leon), both
of South Bend, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Felicia Gates,
Latisha Gates, Rhonda Williams, Kai Ali Coleman, Lana Coleman,
Leonetta Harris, Marcus Coleman and Kadeem Coleman; 10
great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. A special thank
you to her favorite niece, Patricia Clay-Fleming, who attended
and helped ease her suffering during the last days and hours. A
memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010, as her
final request for cremation will be honored. Re-pass in her honor
will be held immediately following the service at the Martin L.
King Center. Thank you to the professionals and staff of the
Sanctuary of St. Joseph Nursing Care Facility. Until we meet
again; "Fly Well" baby girl, back into the bosom of
your heavenly family... Watch for us in the future! A memorial
service for Mrs. Bernadine Coleman will be held on May 1, 2010,
in the Clark O'Neal Funeral Home, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South
Bend, Indiana. Service will begin at 1 p.m. The Clark O'Neal
Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
