David G. Coker

May 27, 1930December 28, 2001

 South Bend, IN— David Glen Coker, 71, of Sorin St., passed away Friday, December 28, 2001 at 10:40pm in his residence following an illness.

A lifetime South Bend resident he was born here on May 27, 1930 to the late Glen "Putt" and Murree (Stant) Coker.

Dave was the owner of Coker Construction Co. and a home builder for more then 30 years. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a former CIA Agent. Generously donating his services for 34 years he was a past President and a coach at Eastside Little League. Eastside named the new field, "Coker Field," after him .

Always an athlete Mr. Coker played sports at Central and Adams High Schools, and later in the South Bend Men's Fast Pitch Softball League and in organized Basketball Leagues up until the age of 67. He was also a member of St. Anthony's Parish. He was awarded a Proclamation and the "Key to the City" by the City of South Bend for his commitment to the community.

His wife Lois (Talarico) Coker survives of South Bend along with his children: Cindy Maggio of Mishawaka; Barry D. (Nancy) Coker of South Bend; Jeff J. Coker of Mishawaka; four grandchildren: Zach Maggio of Mishawaka; Ashley, Kelly and Hayley Coker all of South Bend; a sister Bonny Hoffman of Phoenix, AZ; two sister-in-laws Jean Mabry and Lorraine Werntz both of South Bend. Many nieces and nephews also survive in Arizona and here in Indiana.

Services will be on Thursday January 3, 2002 in St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church, Jefferson and Ironwood, with Rev. Terry Fisher, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, IN. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd. just east of Ironwood.
