SOUTH BEND - James E. Coffelt, 71, of 33rd Street, died at 3:09 a.m. today in Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Coffelt retired from Montgomery Ward & Co. and Excel Corp., Elkhart. He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Boswell, Ind., and lived in South Bend most of his life. On Oct. 16, 1943, in Mishawaka, he married Clara T. DeRoo. She survives with three daughters, Donna J. Humes and Christine L. Kinney, both of South Bend, and Kathleen A. Mortimore of Niles; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jewell V. Menefee of Fowler, Ind., and Treva Barna of Severna Park, Md.; and three brothers, Joseph of Otterbein, Ind., Theodore of Leigh Acres, Fla., and Howard of Philadelphia. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, and a veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Alzheimer's Association.
