Ruth Marie Coddens, 88, of South Bend, Ind., passed away on Tuesday morning, April 10, in Regency Place of South Bend. She was born on Oct. 22, 1912, in LaPorte Ind., to Oscar and Maude Zimmerman.

On March 2, 1936, in South Bend, she married Emil A. Coddens, who died on Dec. 18, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marilyn Lee Reichert in 1998, and brothers, Leslie and Raymond Zimmerman. She is survived by her grandchildren, Michelle and Dan Gillick of Reston, Va., Chris and Ann Reichert, Albert C. Reichert IV of St. Louis, Mo., and Diane and Rady Johnson of Westport, Conn.; and by 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Coddens was a co-owner of the Coddens Dairy Store on Portage Road in South Bend, retiring from business after 29 years in 1977.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, in The Cathedral of St. James Episcopal, with The Very Reverend Frederick Mann and Deacon Joe Illes officiating. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in the WELSHEIMER FUNERAL HOME, 521 N. William Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
