SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth R. "Betty" Clarquist, 96, of South Bend, IN, died on Monday, March 3, 2008, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Betty was born November 25, 1911, to Anna and Vendel Kocsis in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.

She married Walter Clarquist on December 14, 1935, in South Bend, and they had three children. Betty enjoyed dancing, sewing and reading and, later, spending time with her grandson. She worked for many years before she was married at Bendix, and later in retail at Wyman's and Robertson's department stores. She was always an independent and hard-working woman who enjoyed her family and Notre Dame football. Betty is survived by her daughter, Marian Rozycki of South Bend, IN; one grandson, Dr. Todd W. Rozycki (Nicole) of South Bend, IN; two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Lily, both at home; two nieces and two nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Annette Clarquist; a son, Richard; a sister, Anna Kocsis; and three brothers, Eugene, John and David Kocsis. She was a member of St. John the Baptist parish where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Visitation will from 9 to 11 AM Saturday, March 8, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, March 8, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
