A memorial service for Phyllis Frances Clark, 91, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, in the Cathedral of St. James, South Bend, Ind. Mrs. Clark, a South Bend resident for 64 years, died on Feb. 6, 2001, in Easton, Md. Mrs. Clark, the daughter of Jack and Marjorie MacGachen Allen, was born on Aug. 22, 1909, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. After graduating from Ruperts Land Ladies College in Winnipeg, she married William H. Clark, M.D., in 1929.
Dr. and Mrs. Clark moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1933, where Dr. Clark established a 40-year, ear, nose and throat practice, interrupted by wartime service as an Army Air Corps flight surgeon, and Mrs. Clark became active in the community. She was a member of the South Bend Junior League and the Cathedral of St. James, helped found Planned Parenthood of South Bend and the Coffee Corner of Memorial Hospital. Following Dr. Clark's death in 1985, Mrs. Clark remained in South Bend for another 12 years before moving to Easton in 1997.
Mrs. Clark is survived by a son, William M. Clark of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Catherine C. North of Baltimore, Md.; and two brothers, both of Canada, Beresford Allen of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Peter Webb of Niagara on the Lake, Ontario. Mrs. Clark had nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Martha C. Olt, a daughter, died in 1981.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fernwood Nature Preserve in Buchanan, Mich., or to Planned Parenthood of South Bend.
