NEW CARLISLE - Cyriel A. Claeys, 84, of 51801 Tamarack Road, died at 5:55 p.m. Monday in Miller's Merry Manor. Mr. Claeys retired as a custodian for Westminster Presbyterian Church, South Bend, and was a farmer most of his life.

He was born May 26, 1909, in Belgium, and had lived in New Carlisle since 1923, coming from Belgium. On April 26, 1934, in South Bend, he married Mary A. Truyaert. She survives, with a daughter, Eileen Bode of New Carlisle; a son, Robert M. of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Bucha and Madeline Johnson, both of South Bend; and a brother, Camiel of Mishawaka.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Stanislaus-Kostka Catholic Church, Terre Coupee. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., where the parish rosary will be said at 4 p.m.
