John Chrapliwy

SOUTH BEND - John Chrapliwy, 85, of Greencroft Nursing Home, Goshen, formerly of 726 S. Meade St., died at 7:45 a.m. Monday in the nursing home. Mr. Chrapliwy retired in 1977 from AM General Corp. and was an employee of Studebaker Corp. for 36 years. He was born Jan. 1, 1909, in Racine, Wis., and lived in South Bend most of his life. In 1931, in South Bend, he married Frances Machowiak. She died in 1984. He is survived by a daughter, Elaine Robinson of Goshen; two sons, Melvin T. of Walkerton and Floyd J. of South Bend; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Frank of California, Pete of Texas, and Chester of Mishawaka. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Goshen, and founder and former president of United Musicians Union.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
