Joseph
J. Chikar, 84, of East
Woodside, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:05 a.m., Sunday, in
St. Paul's Health Care Center. He was a salesman for the
Coca-Cola Bottling Company. In 1974 he retired after 37 years of
service. He was born July 5, 1912, in South Bend, and was a
lifetime area resident.
His
parents, Joseph and Kathryn (Wishin) Chikar preceded him in
death. On May 30,
1939, in South Bend, he married Gizella R. Weisser, who survives.
He is
also survived by a daughter, Barbara Modos of Mishawaka; a son,
Joseph G. Chikar of Osceola, Ind.; five grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; and three brothers, John Chikar, Edward Chikar
and George Chikar, all of South Bend.
A
sister, Irene Hoffman of Hoffman
Estates, Ill., preceded him in death.
Services
will be Thursday, at 10
a.m., in St. Matthews Cathedral at 1701 Miami St., South Bend.
Friends may call Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at
Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 3718 S. Michigan St., South
Bend. A rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Highland
Cemetery.
Mr. Chikar
was an avid fisherman and bowler. He was a member of the Calvert
Rod and Gun Club, Eagles Lodge of South Bend, the Battell
Seniors, the Howard Park Senior Citizens and Teamsters Union 364.
