Gizella R. Chikar, 85, of Woodside
Street, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Holy
Cross Care & Rehab Center. Mrs. Chikar was born on Feb. 14,
1916, in South Bend, Ind., to Karl and Rose Weisser.
On May 30, 1939, in South Bend, as Gizella Weisser,
she married Joseph Chikar, who died on Aug. 25, 1996. She was
also preceded in death by her parents, and by two brothers, Emil
Weisser and Frank Weisser. She was a charter member of the
Calvert Rod & Gun Club Ladies Aux., St. Matthew Cathedral,
its Altar & Rosary Society, the Howard Park Seniors Card
Group and the Battell Center Card Group.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara
(Robert) Modos of Mishawaka, Ind.; a son, Joseph G.
(Carole) Chikar of Osceola, Ind.; five grandchildren, Joseph
Chikar, Amy Chikar, Robert Modos, Ryan Modos and Amanda Modos;
two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Modos and Ashley Modos; and by a
brother, Karl Weisser of South Bend.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in Our Lady of Hungary Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a R osary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
