Stella V. Chelminiak

March 10, 1908 - July 29, 1996

Stella V. Chelminiak, 88, of Americana Nursing Facility, Elkhart, formerly of 1349 N. Wilbur St., South Bend, died Monday, July 29 at 2am in the nursing facility of natural causes.

Mrs. Chelminiak was born March 10, 1908, and was a lifelong South Bend resident.  On February 11, 1929, in South Bend, as Stella V. Walkowski, she married Stanley Chelminiak; he died on October 27, 1974.

She was formerly employed as a sales clerk with Spiro's Department Store and also volunteered at the St Joseph Medical Center Gift Shop.

Mrs. Chelminiak was preceded in death by her son, Stanley J. Chelminiak on January 7, 1978.  She is survived by five grandchildren, Steven Chelminiak of Maui, Hawaii; Stacy Chelminiak of South Bend, Janet Chelminiak Podell of South Bend, Sue Chelminiak Edington of Wauwatosa WI and Sandra Chelminiak Seanor of Osceola.

Also surviving are seven great grandchildren, Thomas Podell, Christopher Podell, Laura Podell, Jasmine Podell, Gabriella Podell, Samuel Edington, Abigail Edington; a sister, Jennie Walkowski Swiental of South Bend and her daughter-in-law, Jean Chelminiak Hall of South Bend.

A graveside service will be held on Friday August 2, at 10am in St Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.  Reverend James McGrath, CSC, will officiate.

Mrs. Chelminiak was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Harvest House of the Church.
