MISHAWAKA - Lewis M. Chapman, 78, of San Mateo, Calif., formerly of Mishawaka, died Saturday in his home after an illness. Mr. Chapman retired in 1975 from Uniroyal Plastics Co. after 34 years of service. He was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Newton County, Ind., and lived in Mishawaka until moving to California in 1993.

In 1939 in Mishawaka, he married Mary Jane Palmer. She survives with a daughter, Judy Chapman Bjorling of Glenview, Ill.; a son, Larry of San Mateo; a sister, Helen Kitson of Elida, Ohio; and a brother, Darrell of Brook, Ind. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, South Bend, and a veteran of World War II.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, South Bend. O'Connell Chapel, San Mateo, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
