John A. Chaney
March 19, 1945 - April 26, 2000

John A. Chaney, 55, of East South
Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a long-term battle
with cancer at 3:28 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26, in his
residence. John was born on March 19, 1945 in South Bend to Elmer
and Helen (Cornell) Chaney. Elmer preceded him in death.
On May 21, 1978, in South Bend, John married
Sandra W. Weaver, who preceded him in death on April 8,
1996. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Mae
Kaufman. John was in the U.S. Marines from 1965 to 1969 during
the Vietnam War. He received the National Defense Service Medal,
Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct
Medal. John worked for Bendix as a drafter for 20 years and
retired in 1994. He was a member of the local American Legion and
Local V.F.W.
John leaves to cherish his memories his two
daughters, Marie Baumgartner and Heather Parrish,
both of South Bend; his mother, Helen Chaney of South Bend; two
sisters, Dona Marie Kite and Hazel Marlene Carter, both of
South Bend; three brothers, Elmer Dale Chaney and William Edward
Chaney, both of South Bend, and Marvin Eugene Chaney of Benton
Harbor; and one granddaughter, Skyla Parrish.
There will be a graveside service at noon on Saturday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, with Pastor Jack Cary officiating.
