Dorothy M. Chamberlin, 90, died at
2:05 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22, in the Cardinal Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center of South Bend, Ind. She was born on Jan.
19, 1910, in Sheldon, N.D., to John and Rose (Cooney) Mougey.
She graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1931, and
St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, N.D., in 1938.
She then moved to Mishawaka in 1940 and continued her nursing
career as an instructor at St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind.
She married Louis E. Chamberlin on Aug. 23,
1941, in Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her husband
Louis in 1959; and by a stepson, Louis Frederick Chamberlin in
1993.
In 1949 she joined the South Bend Public
School System, completed her degree in public health, and retired
in 1975 from John Adams High School after 25 years of service as
the school nurse. She was a member of the American Association of
University Women, Howard Park Senior Citizens, Adams Retired
Teachers Association, and St. Anthony dePadua's Rosary Society
and Harvest House.
She is survived by two sons Louis and (Lynn)
Chamberlin of Mishawaka and Michael Chamberlin of South Bend; and
by 17 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.
There will be no visitation. A memorial Mass
will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in St. Bavo
Catholic Church. McGann Funeral Homes are handling the
arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Michael J.
