Sister M. Evangel Cavanaugh CSC, 84, died at 3:15 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Convent after a lengthy illness.
Sister Evangel was born on July 14, 1894 in Salem, Ohio. As Mary Agnes Cavanaugh, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, on July 6, 1926. Sister was received as a novice on Jan. 6, 1927, and made her final profession of vows on Jan. 6, 1929.
Sister Evangel was a registered nurse and served in various capacities in the health care field in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, California and Utah. She also taught elementary school for several years in Indiana and Illinois.
Surviving are three sisters, Elizabeth and Kathleen Cavanaugh, both of Salem, Ohio, and Mrs. Louis G. LaMair of Sun City, Calif., and a brother, Frank Cavanaugh of Warren, Ohio.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, St. Mary’s College.
Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today in the St. Mary’s Convent parlors where a wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today.
