SOUTH BEND - Allen Harley Cater, 89,
of Eclipse Place, died of natural causes at 3:47 p.m. Friday in
Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cater retired from the Studebaker Corp.
after 36 years of service and was a former employee of Saint
Mary's College and Indiana Club. He was born Nov. 4, 1904, in
Mosinee, Wis., and lived in South Bend since 1927.
On Oct. 6, 1924, in Knowlton, Wis., he
married Genevieve Daniecki. She died Dec. 12, 1990. He is
survived by two daughters, Eleanor Towne of Greenwood,
Ind., and Jean Anna Burkhart of South Bend; a son, Arnold
A. of South Bend; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Neva Case of
Rothschild, Wis., Lila Christensen of Mosinee and Florence
Pagel of Juneau, Wis.; and three brothers, Ernest of
Louisville, Colo., Len of Sturtevant, Wis., and Willard of
Mosinee. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the
church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in
Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses
Association, American Cancer Society or American Heart
Association.
