SOUTH BEND - Lynette Hammond Cassady, 82, of South Bend, died
Monday, August 9, 2010, after a long illness. She had recently
moved from her home in South Bend to Greenleaf Health Campus in
Elkhart. She was born February 5, 1928, in South Bend, the
daughter of A. Lynn and Irene Hammond Minzey. On August 12, 1950,
she married John R. Cassady, M.D., who preceded her in death.
Lynn was a lifelong resident of South Bend, and all her summers
were spent at Corey Lake in Three Rivers, MI. She graduated from
Adams High School and Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, MI.
Survivors include four children, Anne (Ric) Ferri of Oak Park,
IL, Jean (Kirk) Robinson of Seattle WA, John K. (Wendy) Cassady
of Elkhart and Daniel H. (Margaret) Cassady of Seattle WA; as
well as five grandchildren, Daniel Ferri or Chicago, Kelly
Cassady of Elkhart, Sarah Robinson and Colin and Virginia Cassady
of Seattle, WA. Lynn is also survived by her brother, Ronald D.
(Connie) Minzey of Elkhart, and her sister, Connie (Richard)
Holton of Berkley, CA. Lynn was an active volunteer in numerous
organizations including the Northern Indiana Historical Museum
and the Junior League of South Bend. She was also a member of the
Literary Club, Thalia Sorority and Antiquarians. Before she
became ill she was a very active member of the First Presbyterian
Church. Visitation will be in the First Presbyterian Church, 333
W. Colfax, from 9-11 a.m. on Friday, August 13, followed by the
service in the church at 11 a.m. Pastor Robert Agnew will
officiate. Lynn will be buried at the Sumption Prairie Cemetery
with four generations of the Minzey - Cassady family. Memorial
contributions may be made to YMCA Camp Eberhart or to the charity
of your choice. The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted the
