Spartaco P. Casini Sr., 80, of South Main Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Spartaco was born on Dec. 10, 1922, in Mishawaka, as the son of the late Amilcare and Ida (Pasini) Casini. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Leno Casini, and by a grandchild, Travis Casini. On May 27, 1944, in South Bend, Ind., he married the former Josephine Wieger, who also preceded him in death on April 25, 1997.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Mark) Van De Putte of Mishawaka; two sons, Spartaco "Sparky" P. (Kristin) Casini Jr. of South Bend and Michael (Anne) Casini of Granger, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Angela (Chris) Nooe, Gaberielle, Lori, Dominic and Derek Casini, Ryan and Andrew Van De Putte; two great-grandchildren, Gianna and Isaac Nooe; and by his sister, Rebella Good of South Bend.

Spartaco was a lifetime area resident. He was a supervisor at Holbert Engineering for 20 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the German Club, and was a past member of DeAmici's Club Mishawaka. Spartaco was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 26, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27, in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Robert Binta officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Spartaco to RiverBend Cancer Services, 711 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46617.
