George Carter, Jr.

George Carter, Jr., 67, formerly of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Winter Haven Hospital, Winter Haven, Fla. George was born in South Bend, Ind., on Jan. 29, 1931, to George and Beatrice (Wells) Carter, who preceded him in death.

 

On July 15, 1950, George married the former Jacqueline Foerster in Mishawaka. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sherry Denny of Greenfield, Ind.; a son, Steven Carter of Westfield, Ind.; two granddaughters, Christina Marie Denny and Margaret Ann Carter; and by a sister, Betty Tautges of Fond Du Lac, Wis.

 

George lived in the Mishawaka area until 1974, moving to the Indianapolis, Ind., area. After retirement in 1995, George moved to Winter Haven. While working, he was a brick mason or in brick sales for over forty years, his last employer being Irvin Interstate Brick and Block. George was a past president of the Indiana State Brick Masonry Conference, a member of the Apostolic Temple, South Bend, the First Church of the Nazarene in Winter Haven, a former member of the Mishawaka Lions Club, a 1949 graduate of South Bend Riley High School, and a Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home, with Rev. Paul Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
