Herman J. Carrington, 95, of Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died following a short illness on Wednesday evening, Feb. 10, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind. Mr. Carring-ton was born on Sept. 19, 1903, in Ladoga, Ind., to Archie E. and Hallie (Lakin) Carrington, and had lived in South Bend since 1925, coming from Indianapolis.
On Jan. 9, 1932, in Indianapolis, he married Margaret Davis, who preceded him in death on March 28, 1997. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael O. Carrington; and by a brother, Austin Carrington. He is survived by a daughter, Alice C. (Nag) Nagarajan of Indianapolis; a son, Michael D. (Lynn) Carrington of South Bend; and by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carrington retired from O.J. Shoemaker as an office administrator. He graduated from DePauw University were he affiliated with the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and was a Rector Scholar. He was a member of First United Methodist in South Bend. Mr. Carrington was a former treasurer of the Plumbing and Heating Cooling Contractors Association of St. Joseph County, a former Ex-Change Club member of South Bend, and was a member of the Lions Club of Mishawaka.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday in the chapel of Riverview Cemetery, with Dr. Ellwood K. Smith of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street.
